JaPa leader arrested over ‘torturing female teacher’

Police on Monday arrested a local leader of Jatiya Party (JaPa) from Hajiganj area under Fatullah police station of Narayanganj for allegedly torturing and physically assaulting a female school teacher of the area, reports UNB.

Police arrested lawyer Abdul Majid Khandakar, member secretary of Narayanganj district unit of JaPa over torturing and physically assaulting Shahinur Parveen Shanu, a teacher of Pacific International School of the area, on Sunday night, said Kamal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model police station.
Victim’s father Shaiful Islam filed a case with the police station on Monday noon accusing Abdul Majid Khandakar and his wife Rokeya Khandakar.
Police later arrested Abdul Majid from his residence in the evening.
According to the case statement, Abdul Majid Khandaker, and his wife went to Shanu’s rented house on Sunday night and offered her to give tuition to their granddaughter.
Shanu refused their offer saying that she has been suffering from kidney complicacies for the last six months.
As Shanu refused the offer, Abdul Majid beat her up with shoes in front of her family members.
The JaPa leader also strangled Shanu and threatened to kill her by electrocution.
Shanu was admitted to Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital, said Sharfuddin, additional superintendent of police (circle- Ka) of the district.
The victim bore several injury marks and evidence of physically humiliation, said Tahmina Naznin, an on-duty doctor of emergency department of the hospital.

রাগে কাঁদলেন ঐশ্বরিয়া!

Some Bali flights resume after volcano eruption

Some international airlines have resumed flights to Bali on Sunday after the Indonesian island’s Mount Agung volcano erupted for the second time in less than a week on Saturday evening. Carriers said they were assessing the situation on Sunday morning with several airlines including Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin resuming flights, which were disrupted after the volcano sent a grey-black plume of ash and steam at least 1,500 meters (4,920 ft) into the sky. Flights affected also included those operated by KLM and AirAsia. Routes to Bali from several cities in Australia, the Netherlands and Malaysia were canceled and re-routed on Saturday night and early Sunday morning as a result of the eruption. Jetstar said its pilots had determined the improved conditions in Bali to be safe for flying. “Most scheduled flights to and from Bali today will operate,” Jetstar said in a release on its website.
