Popular actress Mousumi thinks the country's film industry lacks a congenial environent for all.
"Some are playing behind the scene, trying to control the artistes. As a result, the industry is suffering. I don't think I have anything to get from this industry anymore," said the National Award winning actor.
She was speaking at an informal programme production house Jaaz Multimedia organised to mark her birthday. Although Mousumi's birthday was on 3 November, which was Friday, this programme was held on Sunday.
Mousumi is the international affairs secretary of the Bangldesh Chalachchitra Forum, which was formed last month.
Prior to that, she was a member of the executive committee of Bangladesh Chalachchitra Shilpi Samiti, but the actor resigned in protest at the ban on filmster Shakib Khan.
"I could not accept the ploys made to ban Shakib. If such a top star could be harassed this way, we may guess what is the condition of the common artistes," Mousumi observed.
Who will safeguard the artistes' interests? The Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) or the government? "No" she answers, "Of course I'll go to the BFDC if something bad happens. If the situation worsens I'll ask for help from the government. But, the Chalachchitra Shilpi Samiti is in no way protecting the artistes now."
Mousumi also slammed the 'banning' culture. "If anyone commits a mistake, s/he must be informed about it first. If it's not solved then the seniors should try to find a way. But only a few are producing films now. So, the whole industry is getting affected."
"If everything were fine, Shakib would not have to leave Chalachchitra Shilpi Samiti. I want everyone to do their best," Mousumi said.
